Doggy daycare works much like a daycare center for children. In the morning, you drop your dog at Four Paws Animal Hospital and Pet Resort (FPAH) and then pick them up later in the day. During your dog’s stay, they have a positive, active day while you are at work.
For your dog, doggy daycare is all about fun. The day is spent playing with friends, sniffing, yipping, running, and chasing. Instead of moping around the house in a state of anxiety and loneliness, possibly damaging your possessions, your dog spends the day with us.
Give your dog a better day, every day!
Dogs and puppies are genetically social creatures and have the innate desire of being around other dogs and people. Daycare is a great way to channel their inherent need for this and will allow them to be a better and more obedient member of the family.
Socialization is important in the development of a dog as it teaches them how to adapt to and enjoy people, other dogs, and different environments.
For young dogs, it teaches them invaluable social skills that will help them learn how to properly meet and interact with a variety of other dogs. Very hyperactive dogs are given a proper outlet for all of that energy, and dogs needing to shed a few pounds can do so by playing in the playgroups.
People love daycare because it gets them off the hook, or rather, the leash! After a long day of doing business, you don’t have to rush home for a long walk following your dog until they do their brand of business. Instead, you can pick up your pet(s) and go home to begin your evening with more pleasant pursuits.
With daycare, your furnishings and possessions are safer because the dog won’t be home chewing, digging, or lifting its leg in your living room (or bedroom). Daycare also assures you that neighbors will not be driven to the brink of insanity by incessant barking.
Daycare is not for every dog. Older dogs may have trouble adjusting to the commotion caused by a dozen or more dogs romping and playing in a large area; shy dogs may be overwhelmed by the crowd; and aggressive dogs have no place in a group setting. The staff is experienced in recognizing signs of discomfort and temperament that may indicate your pet is not right for the daycare setting.
Before placing your dog with other dogs, we perform a comprehensive behavioral assessment. That way, we can make sure your dog’s play style and sociability are compatible with the appropriate playgroup to provide the consistency that every dog needs to feel confident and safe.
While we make every effort to prevent the spread of a virus or bacteria, it cannot be completely prevented. This is the main reason we have strict rules about letting dogs enter daycare or even just our boarding facilities. We ask for your help as a pet parent. If you notice any changes in your dog that may indicate they might be getting an illness, please seek veterinarian help and do not return to daycare until resolved.
Like contact sports for humans, daycare is similar, except these participants are playing the game with their teeth and claws. The more active a player, the more likely they could get scratches or other injuries. There is a playgroup supervisor with the dogs at all times, but sometimes things do happen. When incident do arise, all injuries will be triaged and owners will be contacted. All treatment is at owner’s expense.
