At FPAH, we aim to help your pet grow into their senior years gracefully and healthfully!
We believe that caring for your aging pet requires more than simply treating problems as they arise. By emphasizing your pet’s wellness throughout their life with a comprehensive preventative health care plan, we can significantly increase their long term health and comfort!
We encourage our clients to take an active role in combatting ailments associated with the aging process. Senior wellness exams are recommended twice yearly for aging animals because they help our veterinarians detect, treat, and control any medical conditions before they progress into serious problems and negatively affect your pet’s quality of life. For animals in their “senior years,” our veterinarians recommend semi-annual comprehensive blood testing, which helps in detection of diseases such as kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease, and thyroid imbalances. By detecting these diseases as early as possible, we can begin treatment and help keep your aging animal well.
A senior wellness exam at FPAH focuses on:
• An in-depth consultation that chronicles your pet’s complete medical history including recent changes in weight, appetite, water-intake and elimination, dietary and nutrition history, prescription medications and supplements, behavior and activity levels, and any indications of pain (i.e. arthritis or oral pain).
• A thorough “nose-to-tail” physical examination, including a dental evaluation.
• Comprehensive diagnostic testing that may include a blood profile analysis (blood count and blood chemistry panel), urinalysis, x-rays, thyroid hormone testing, ultrasound or other tests depending on the needs of your pet.
We want to help you in providing your aging pet with the best and most comprehensive senior veterinary care so that they experience the healthiest and happiest quality of life in their “golden years!” Please contact us to schedule a senior wellness exam for your senior pet.
